This module describes the essential aspects of the physical, chemical and biological interactions in surface waters, that are necessary for designing an effective monitoring and assessment programme and for interpretation of the results.

Key features of successful assessment programmes will be identified.

Potential approaches to analysing and presenting surface water quality data will be evaluated.

Practicalities

Total Marks 100: Continuous Assessment 100 marks (2MCQ tests 50 marks each (100 marks)).

Requirements

A BSc in Environmental Science or similar subject; or a relevant professional qualification; or a portfolio of work and experience in the area of water quality monitoring. Candidates who do not hold a BSc will be judged on a case-by-case basis as to their suitability for the programme, subject to the approval of the college of Science, Engineering and Food Science. Candidates, for whom English is not their primary language, should possess an IELTS of 6.5 ( or TOEFL equivalent) with no less than 6.0 in each individual category.


*where modules are part of an existing programme and are to be offered as CPD Modules, the applicant will be expected to meet the entry requirements of the programme.

Fees and Costs

The fee for this module is €400.
Applicants from low income countries that are part of the GEMS/Water programme should contact gemscdcadmin@ucc.ie for information about fee concessions.

The fee for Non-EU applicants is €800
